“All the world is full of suffering. It is also full of overcoming” –Helen Keller

I believe Love is the greatest power, overcomes evil, hardships, and flaws. However, there exists the cold, hard fact of human suffering. The idea of overcoming sounds good, but when suffering persists and we feel alone in it, we find it difficult to overcome anything by ourselves. Helen Keller met Anne Sullivan who demonstrated unconditional love, patient presence, and empathic understanding of her human suffering. Hard work and mutual devotion to the process grew a beautiful person who allowed herself to emerge from a silent, sightless, voiceless world. The longing to hear, see and have a voice runs deeply within us all, especially when emotional suffering or mental anguish renders us powerless. That is often how therapy begins.
